Why is my motor not shutting off when I walk away with my captains fob?

The advertised range of a fob is 50 ft but in most cases it is much further.  On Mercury SmartCraft engines, the MOB function is disabled when the engine is in the neutral gear position.  This feature can be toggled on/off by going into Menu>Vessel Settings.
